    1. Q: 1851 London Township-St Patricks Rural Ward & 1878 London "East" just east of the city limits - are these 2 areas the same and known as Nilestown today?
      A:
No. St. Patrick's rural ward extended from Highway 4 (Richmond Street) on the west to the West Nissouri Township boundary on the east and Telfer Road (now Nine Mile Road) in the north to the North branch of the Thames River in the south. London East was the area east of Adelaide Street, and Nilestown is located in North Dorchester Township -- a bit of a distance away

    2. Q: Can anyone tell me how to go about searching for the burial place of my father's aunt who was a Franciscan Sister? She was born in Maine, USA, and died there in the 1930s. In 1930, she was a nurse in the hospital in her hometown of Eagle Lake, ME, located in the northern part of the state. I can find no death records but, before my father passed, he mentioned that he thought she was buried somewhere in Canada. He remembered something about her brother having to take her to her Mother House, in Canada, for burial. Since I have no idea as to the location of the Mother House, how would I go about locating her burial place?
      A:
      According to
Wikipedia the motherhouse in Canada is located in Toronto. Their website is called the Sisters of St Joseph of Toronto, contact them and ask about burials.

    3. Q: I am from New Zealand & am trying to trace my great grandfather's ancestors. I have found him in 1861, 1871 1891 & 1901 for Lambton County & Middlesex Counties. I have his death registration information - 1904. His parents, however, are not mentioned. Where would I go to find that information. He was Mennonite & his parents are listed as being born in Ontario.
      A:
His marriage registration - they usually list the names of parents. Obituary - it usually lists the names of family, perhaps even siblings that you can trace and see if their records mention the names of their parents. There are many resources besides census and death registrations that can be used to find this information.

    4. Q: I have an ancestor who is Huron indian from the London, Ontario area born about 1841. She married my great, great grandfather who came over from England as a soldier with the Kings Royal Rifles 4th Battalion in 1857. Where do I find information about my native ancestors.
      A:
To find resources for Native research see the Archives of Ontario publication "Aboriginal Peoples in the Archives". This is a guide to sources located at the Archives of Ontario. And "Records of the Federal Department of Indian Affairs at the National Archives of Canada" by Bill Russell, available through

    5. Q: I would like to obtain a copy of my deceased grandfathers birth certificate. He was born in London, Ontario in 1912 before emigrating to UK. Can i do this and who do i contact.
      A:
As of 1 May 2004 the latest birth certificates that can be publically obtained are those that happened prior to midnight on 31 Dec 1907. After this date all birth certificates and registrations are considered private and can only be obtained by next-of-kin (if your grandfather's spouse or any children are still living you will have to get one of them to obtain the certificate for you unless you have power of attorney for your grandfather). Please see the
Birth Records page on this site as well as the Q&A directly above for links that provide further detail.
