This was a dispersed rural community originally centred around a rural school house called Ballygrant. A weekly column appeared in the Creemore Star and Stayner Sun around 1880-1920 giving news from this community. There were two churches also. A cemetery called East Nottawasaga Presbyterian Cemetery still exists there surrounding the now unused church of the same name.
Cannot be confirmed as an official place name. Likely a local name only.
