LOCATION:
John Island
Historic (Geographic) Location*: North Shore Township, Algoma District

A lumber town established by John Moiles and his brothers after John was deeded the land 1 Apr 1889. The town was mostly destroyed by fire 7 Apr 1915. In the late 1940's/early 1950's some of the townsite was donated to the YMCA, and in 1954 the YMCA John Island Camp was opended. The site is currently owned by YMCA Sudbury.
