Former Names (no longer used): Lunenburg District

LOCATION:

Established 24 July 1788 as Lunenburg District, renamed Eastern District in 1792, and abolished in 1849; Consisted of the counties of Dundas, Glengarry, Grenville, Leeds, Ontario (#1), Prescott, Russell & Stormont. In 1798 Carleton, Grenville & Leeds were removed and established as Johnstown District. In 1816 Prescott and Russell were removed to create Ottawa District. In 1826, 1838 & 1845 Eastern District consisted of the counties of Dundas, Glengarry and Stormont.

Former Location**: Home District & Niagara District

LOCATION:

Established 1816 from Home District (Halton) and Niagara District (Haldimand, Lincoln), as well as most of Brant County, part of Dufferin County, most of Waterloo County, part of Wellington County and Wentworth County. In 1840 Waterloo & Wellington were removed to form Wellington District. Gore District was abolished in 1849.

Established 24 July 1788 as one of four districts within Upper Canada. Consisted of the current counties of Brant, Bruce, Dufferin Elgin, Essex, Grey, Huron, Kent, Lambton, Middlesex, Norfolk, Oxford, Perth, Waterloo, and Wellington. Bruce and Grey counties were considered Indian Land.

No Longer Exists
Former Names (no longer used): Nassau District (1788-1792)

LOCATION:

Established 24 July 1788 as Nassau District, Renamed Home District in 1792. Was comprised of the counties of Brant, Halton, Ontario, Peel, Simcoe, Wentworth, and York. In 1798 the district consisted of part of Brant, Dufferin, part of Durham, part of Grey, Halton, part of Muskoka, part of Oxford, part of Parry Sound, Peel, Simcoe, Waterloo, part of Wellington, part of Wentworth, and York. In 1816 Brant, Halton and Wentworth were removed from Home District and became Gore District. In 1826 Home District consisted of the current counties of most of Dufferin, part of Durham, part of Grey, Peel, part of Muskoka, part of Parry Sound, Simcoe, and York. In 1843 Simcoe County was removed and became Simcoe District. In 1838 & 1845 Home District consisted of the current counties of part of Durham, Peel and York. In 1850 all districts were abolished in favour of counties. The area that was formerly Home District was now the Counties of Durham, Ontario, Peel and York.

LOCATION:

Established in 1800 from Home District and Western District, abolished in 1849; Consisted of the current counties of part of Brant, Elgin, part of Halidmand, part of Middlesex, Norfolk, and most of Oxford. In 1826 consisted of the current counties of part of Brant, Elgin, most of Middlesex, Norfolk and Oxford; In 1837 Norfolk County was removed to create Talbot District. In 1839 Oxford County was removed to Brock District. In 1841 Perth & Huron Counties became part of Huron District. In 1845 London District consisted of the current counties of Elgin and most of Middlesex.

District Towns: Charlotteville (1798-1815), Tisdale's Mills (1815-1818), vittoria (1818-1826), London (1826-1849)

In 1826 consisted of the current counties of Frontenac, Hastings, Lennox & Addington, part of Nipissing, Prince Edward, and part of Renfrew; In 1838 & 1845 consisted of the current counties of part of Frontenac and part of Lennox & Addington.
